Engineering & Subsea Operations Cost Analyst

Job Summary:
Working closely with, and reporting to, the Engineering & Subsea Ops Accountant, this position provides accounting support and guidance to the Facilities Engineering & Subsea Operations teams to allow them to effectively manage their budgets within a financially controlled environment.
This includes, but is not limited to: budget preparation; VOWD and accruals estimation, expenditure forecasting; monthly cost reporting.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Technical/Functional
Assist the Engineering & Subsea teams in the production of forecast financial data and preparation of cost estimates for budgets, PAFs and AFEs, providing advice on accounting treatment.
Monitoring/tracking of actual expenditure against budgets and commitments (Work Orders, PAFs, AFEs, etc), prompting timely revision of limits as required.
Development and preparation of monthly cost reports to assist the E&SO teams to understand, manage and control their budgets, providing effective communication to E&SO budget holders and meeting regularly with them.
Assisting with business process and controls improvements, and roll-out of P2P best-practice initiatives to the Engineering & Subsea teams
Responsible for ensuring that the financial ledger accurately reflects the status of Engineering & Subsea costs incurred, through assisting in the estimation of monthly VOWD and timely booking of accruals. Liaison with other Finance and Payables accounting groups in Aberdeen & Uxbridge to ensure ledger and billings accurately reflect work activities.
Timely and accurate preparation of monthly Finance reports, monthly Outlook forecasts and variance analysis for area of responsibility, in conjunction with the Engineering and Subsea teams.
Commercial analysis and providing decision support.
Assist in budget preparation by the creation of templates and co-ordination of input to partner and corporate budgets to meet set deadlines. Assist in the preparation and presentation of budget material for internal and partner review.

Support of internal and partner audits of expenditures relating to area of responsibility. Ensure accounting procedures enable Finance to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Ensure Approvers Authority Matrix is adhered to in sphere of activity, and that the Company Controls environment is followed, in coordination with the Internal Controls Advisor.
Liaison with other departments to ensure a thorough understanding of the business processes as they relate to area of responsibility. Develop strong working relationship with main interfaces within the asset team, providing guidance and direction on financial matters in these areas.
Support the ongoing development of the SAP system and various initiatives, specifically in relation to issues affecting area of responsibility.
Ad-hoc duties as requested by the Producing Operations – Accounting Lead or E&SO Accountant.
Qualifications/Training:

Accountancy qualification or part-qualified (ACCA or CIMA) is preferable.
Considerable accounting background in the oil industry (experience of accounting for engineering, subsea or producing asset operations preferable).
A “can do” attitude that accommodates a proven track record of creating and implementing improvements and solutions.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

Ability to plan and prioritise in order to meet tight, sometimes conflicting deadlines.
Ability to perform a critical review of financial information.
Oil industry experience.
Experience of accounting for joint venture & Operations accounting.
Experience of preparing management reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
Experience of budgeting for producing assets.
Excellent systems skills required - SAP experience preferred.
Good communication skills (both interpersonal and written).
